Parrot Care Information

Parrots have been kept as pets for generations because of their wonderful colors, adoring personalities, and high intelligence. Although there are a few challenges in caring for these birds at home, however, they can make amazing pets with proper care.

Different kinds of parrots have different needs, but it is a fact that all types of parrots need proper nutrition in order to lead a healthy life. The diet of many parrot are almost similar. Generally, parrot diets include fresh fruits and vegetables, parrot pellets, and a high quality of vitamin supplemented parrot seed mix. Fresh water also needs to be provided to pet parrots everyday.

In general, birds are considered as a dirty pet to own. Therefore, it becomes very important to keep your parrots’ cages clean. Clean perches, dishes and other surfaces of the cage daily with water and mild soap. Do no use cleaning products such as ammonia, mold and mildew cleaner, and bleach because these products can irritate or burn a parrot’s skin, eyes and reparatory tract. Also, inspect the parrots’ cages for unsafe situations such as sharp points in the metal or any other thing that can injure your pet.

Remember to wash your hands frequently when working with birds, handling their dishes, and preparing their meals to avoid bacterial infections. In addition, do not allow your birds to place its beak in your mouth or nose as human saliva also contain bacteria that are harmful to parrots.

When it comes to the size of parrot’s cage, bigger is always better. However, if you are short of space, consider the one in which your pet can spread its wings easily and it should be roomy enough to hang 2 to 4 safe parrot toys.

Give your pet parrots a comfortable and an airy environment, and they will not only be happier but also will live a healthier life.
