Bengal Cat Care
Bengal cats possess very engaging, lively, and loving characters, which makes them wonderful pets. Although they are quite hardy cats with a few particular care requirements, however they greatly depend on their owners for food, shelter, health care, love and affection.
Here are some tips that will help you in taking care of your pet Bengal cat.
- Always keep dry kitten food and fresh, clean water available to your pet.
- Avoid giving your Bengal cat milk as it can cause diarrhea.
- Make sure to feed your Bengal cat the high quality food. Never feed it food that is intended for other animals as cats have specific dietary needs.
- If you want to own a Bengal kitten that is younger than six weeks old, then it is better to get an expert advice of your veterinarian about feeding.
- Since overeating can cause diarrhea or vomiting, it is better to take uneaten food away from a kitten after ten minutes.
- Bengal kittens, under six months, need to be fed canned kitten food three to four times a day. However, you can reduce it to twice a day at about six to eight months of age.
- At the age of one year, change to adult food. For this, mix one-fourth adult food with three-fourth kitten food and gradually increase the proportion of adult food over five to ten days.
- Since cats like variety, feed them both dry and wet cat food.
- Do not give your pet cat bones and uncooked food; however, you can give them table scraps in moderation, i.e. merely 50 percent of your Bengal’s diet.
- It is important to neuter female cats at four to six months of age, and males at six to seven months to avoid reproduction.
- Cats prefer to have a clean litter box. Therefore, scoop waste from it on daily basis, and clean the box and refill it with clean litter once a week.
